Like so many this year the NADINE Project had to cancel their 2020 residencies due to the pandemic. In lieu of our annual showing we'd love to share what we've been up to which includes some virtual work for you to enjoy!
Picture
We'll start off with NADINE co-founder Janet Mansfield Soares whose new book, The Westminster Arcade, is in bookstores now , or  at History Press Publishers, or Amazon. The book is about her time living in an Arcade micro-loft, combining research on one of the first shopping arcades in America and the last standing, and a personal memoir of the building where her father had a shop. Yes, some dance references too!

Kathryn Alter is in the process of wrapping up her MFA at Hunter College and has been researching the nature of site specific work and screen dance.  Below are two clips from a virtual museum she is creating for her thesis.  Kathryn is also working at Ballet Am Rhein in Germany creating a group version of José Limón's Chaconne.

NADINE coordinator Jennifer Yackel created "Ruby" for DP TV at Dixon Place which you can view HERE. "Ruby" will be presented again as part of Dancefusion's virtual program for the Philadelphia's Fringe Festival. Also on the program is the premier of her new dance short "Table For Eight?"   The program will be available for viewing September 23-October 4th at https://fringearts.com/event/dancefusion-back-to-now/.

We have two "performance" offerings from Daniel Fetecua.  The first of which is a short dance film created during the pandemic.  The second is from March of this year and is the result of 10 years of collaborative work with composer Pablo Mayor.

Marie Brown has been involved with a few dance projects since showing her “Box Dance” at Nadine in 2019. She was honored to be able to perform “Box Dance” at the InHale Performance Series in Philadelphia where several artists present new works and get feedback from the audience. She was also able to present at the Fall Frolic Fundraiser for <Fidget> in November 2019. More recently, she was honored to be a part of The Philadelphia Matter 1972 / 2020 virtual project. Choreographer David Gordon and video artist Jorge Cousineau along with several Philadelphia artists all collaborated to create a dance film. The dancers used archival works from 1972 to create a 2020 version of the movement material. It was definitely interesting to try and figure out ways to effectively film and accurately perform the movement learned from video. She was privileged to participate in this project especially during such a rough time for the arts. Marie is continuing to teach dance at Temple University as an adjunct professor and has started teaching virtual Pilates since March. Zoom has been her new way of interacting with students and artists.

Angie Moon Conte has been working in both dance making and film/ digital media. She recently premiered her first evening length work “The Drowning Pine” in collaboration with multi-media artist Benny Krown and lighting designer Ted Boyce-Smith. She will soon be premiering a new sight specific work, originally intended for the WestFestAll Over Westbeth program, which has since been switched over to a remote digital platform. Excerpts from "The Drowning Pine": https://vimeo.com/358897155

Debbie Mausner who was set to join us for the first time this year made a short film study exploring the idea of self portrait which you can view here:https://vimeo.com/432235715.  This project was facilitated in a small artist cohort over Zoom led by artist DZ Maciel, with all different artists exploring the concept of self portrait through different mediums. We look forward to meeting Debbie in person at our next residency! If you would like to learn more about her check out her instagram page https://www.instagram.com/debbiemakesdances/ and her website https://debbiemausner.com/
